Protection

Financial protection is about giving you and your family greater peace of mind. Our role is to explain your options clearly, answer your questions honestly, and recommend cover only where it genuinely meets your needs.

Buildings & contents

How we recommend cover

We assess your circumstances — including your income, dependants, existing cover, health and budget — before recommending a specific policy from across the whole of the market. This is advised business: we recommend a product suited to your needs, rather than simply listing options for you to compare.

Exclusions, eligibility & things to check

Every protection policy has terms that limit when it will pay out. Before you take out cover, it's important to understand:

  • Exclusions — certain causes of claim, activities or pre-existing conditions may not be covered, and critical illness definitions are set by the insurer and can be narrower than the everyday meaning of the illness.
  • Eligibility — acceptance, premiums and any exclusions depend on the underwriting decision, which takes into account your health, occupation, lifestyle and medical history as disclosed at application.
  • Non-disclosure risk — if you don't disclose relevant information accurately, a claim could be reduced or declined.
  • Reviewability — some policies (for example, certain income protection or group schemes) can have premiums or terms reviewed by the insurer over time.

We'll go through the specific exclusions and conditions that apply to any policy we recommend before you apply.

What it costs

We do not typically charge a separate fee for protection advice; providers usually pay us commission for arranging cover, which is reflected in the policy's cost. We'll confirm the position for your specific recommendation, and any fee that does apply, before you proceed.
